WOSL Premier Report: September

London, Ontario – As of Sunday, September 24 all 10 teams in the Western Ontario Soccer League’s premier division officially completed their respective 18 match schedules.

It is no surprise that the top three positions are held by the division’s top three teams in Marconi (15-2-1, 47 points), Jagiellonia (14-2-2, 44 points), and the Croatians (10-2-6, 32 points). The top three were an impressive group this season and totaled 123 points (Marconi 47, Jagiellonia 44, Croatia 32) and 150 goals-for (Marconi 56, Jagiellonia 53, Croatia 41) - roughly 46.0% of the divisional total of 329.

The AEK Olympians (8-2-8, 26 points) acted as the middle-men for most of the season and found themselves entrenched in fourth position. Fifth place through to eighth place were separated by a slim 2 points as Tillsonburg “A” (6-4-8, 22 points), St. Thomas “A” (6-4-8, 22 points), English FC “A” (6-3-9, 21 points), and the Chatham Express (6-2-10, 20 points) have successfully secured their safety for the 2018 season. The always competitive Wallaceburg Sting (5-3-10, 18 points) will drop to the first division for the 2018 season. However, Sting heads can be held very high as the boys from Wallaceburg showed great fighting spirit. A season highlight for the yellow and black was making an incredible run to the division’s cup final – no small task. The dismal showing by America Pumas (2-0-16, 6 points) propels the team back to the first division.

Congratulations to Marconi on winning the WOSL Cup, Premier Division Cup, and WOSL Premier Division title.

In WOSL first division news, a big congratulations is extended to the London Portuguese on finishing their 2017 season in 1st place. The Portuguese were able to accomplish a fine 13-5-0 (44 points) record which sees the club gain promotion to the premier division for 2018. Sarnia FC (12-1-5, 37 points) will join the Portuguese as the team secured 2nd place and were able to fend off a hungry Chatham Attack (11-1-6, 34 points) side who had promotion dreams of their own.

A total of 16 matches were played in the month of September to bring the season total to an even 90 matches played. Below are the month and year-end statistics for the 2017 WOSL season.
